The congregation was organized in 1803 by Elder Joseph Biggs. The present church was built in 1896 after the previous church was destroyed by fire. Three large wooded posts divide the interior space into two halves, one side for women and children and the other for men. After the Civil War, several African American members were excommunicated for escaping to Union occupied territory.
