The Santa Fe Trail followed high land southwest of here. Two miles south, the Marion Town Company laid out the Town of Marion in honor of Gen. Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox" of Revolutionary War fame. The town had a well, a blacksmith shop, two stores, and later a church. Its post office existed intermittently, operating as Marion from Nov. 1857 to May 1867 and from June 1870 to Aug. 1881, and as Globe from Aug. 1881 to Dec. 1894 and from Feb. 1895 to Nov. 1900.
