The people of Lancaster County erected this monument to the memory of their fellow citizens who fell in defense of the Union in the War of the Rebellion, fought from 1861 to 1865, and it honors soldiers and sailors and recalls the battles of Antietam, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Malvern Hill, Petersburg, Chickamauga, Wilderness, and Chaplin Hills.
