Parramore Island Natural Area Preserve is a protected 7,000-acre barrier island on Virginia’s Eastern Shore along the Atlantic Ocean. More than 7.5 miles long, it is the largest Natural Area Preserve in Virginia and safeguards beaches, dunes, scrub, marshes, and other natural communities characteristic of barrier islands. The Nature Conservancy owns it as part of the Virginia Coast Reserve, a broader conservation area that includes 13 other uninhabited barrier islands. Largely closed to the public, the island remains a mostly undisturbed section of Virginia’s Atlantic coast, with access generally limited to research or educational purposes arranged through The Nature Conservancy.
