In 1889 Walter Gaffett established a powder factory that was part of the Giant Powder Company from the Bay Area. By 1917, when the factory was dismantled, it was reported that 22 people had died in explosions there. The building originally served as the company store. Oley Hayworth opened it as a gas station and grocery store in the 1920s. After it was destroyed by fire in the late 1940s, the current structure replaced it in 1950. The Bailey Family purchased the land from the Harrington Family in 1955 and remain the current owners. It became Olivers in 1982 and is the last surviving operational service station from the Lincoln Highway, Victory Highway, and Highway 40 era in Placer County.
