The Jesse R. Zeigler House in Frankfort, Kentucky, is significant as the only house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that was built in Kentucky during his lifetime. Its creation began after Zeigler and Wright met by chance while traveling to Europe in late October 1909, a meeting that led to the commission. Completed the next year, the house exemplifies Wright’s “A Fireproof House for $5000,” an early 20th-century design for durable, modern domestic architecture. Its architectural importance was formally recognized when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The house remains privately owned and closed to tours.
