Oakland Presbyterian Church has been in continuous use as a place of worship except between 1861 and 1865, when it served as a hospital for a contingent of General T.J. (Stonewall) Jackson's troops encamped nearby. A monument in the churchyard marks the graves of many who died in the church hospital.
