Colonel Louis D. Wilson of the 12th Regiment of U.S. Infantry was honored by fellow citizens of Edgecombe County for his public services and private worth. He was born May 12, 1789, and died August 12, 1847, at Vera Cruz while on his way to join the American army in Mexico. In his will, he gave the residue of his estate, both real and personal, to the chairman of the county court of Edgecombe and his successors in office for the use and benefit of the poor of the county.
