D. L. Bliss State Park occupies part of Lake Tahoe’s western shore north of Emerald Bay and preserves lakeside forest and shoreline along Tahoe’s southwest side. Named for timber and railroad magnate Duane Leroy Bliss, it began in 1929 when his heirs donated 744 acres to California in his honor, and it has since grown to 2,149 acres. The park is known for Rubicon Point Light, identified as the highest-elevation lighthouse in the United States, and for a popular forest trail that passes a large balancing rock. Its shoreline, wooded trails, and historic light have made it a valued scenic and historic landscape.
