Near Buckeystown, Maryland, this thirteen-building complex grew around an industrial trade school for boys from poor families and the older Buckingham House, a late eighteenth-century Federal-style residence. The school operated from 1898 to 1944, and its Monocacy River setting shaped the property through an unusually irrigated surrounding farm. The grounds also preserve several significant late Woodland period archaeological sites, showing a much longer human presence there. After the school closed, the property passed to the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and was adapted first as a youth camp and later as a conference center named for the Rev. Claggett. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
