Independence Hall, originally Pennsylvania’s State House in Philadelphia, became one of the most important civic buildings in American history. Built in the colonial era and completed in 1753 in the Georgian style, it served as the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress, where the Continental Army was founded in 1775 and the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776. It also hosted the Constitutional Convention from May 25 to September 17, 1787, where delegates debated, drafted, and ratified the Constitution. Later renamed in 1824, it remains a national landmark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a lasting symbol of representative government, independence, and constitutional rule.
