West Blue Mountain is the highest peak in the San Mateo Mountains of southwestern New Mexico and the highest point within the Apache Kid Wilderness of Cibola National Forest. Located in the southern half of the range, it stands out not only for its elevation but also for its remoteness. Far from any paved road, the mountain is difficult to reach, and the surrounding trails see relatively little use. That isolation gives the area a distinctly secluded character and helps define its significance within this rugged landscape.
