The Shawnee (Lorimer) Bridge, dedicated in 1915, honored in part the forty-four men, women, and children who lost their lives in the 1913 flood, when the Great Miami River broke free from its banks on March 25, 1913, devastating East Piqua, Shawnee, and Rossville. Floodwaters rose to more than twenty feet in some parts of Piqua, destroying homes, businesses, factories, and the previous iron truss Shawnee Bridge.
