The Meetinghouse at George School

The Meetinghouse at George School was erected in 1812 at 20 South Twelfth Street in Philadelphia. Six of its trusses came from the 1755 Meetinghouse at Second and High Streets. It served as the home of the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia for the Western District and the Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, as the birthplace of the American Friends Service Committee, and as the headquarters of many local, national, and worldwide Quaker organizations. In 1973-74 it was reconstructed here through a generous gift of the Spruance and Alden families, and the Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting donated the funds to transport the materials to George School.
