Lorraine Nobles Howard, a pioneering local business woman and philanthropist, donated a large part of her estate to Louisiana Methodist Children's Home upon her death in 1977. Her bequest included several tracts of property and represented the largest single gift to the Home in its history. Inspired by her generosity, friends and supporters of the Home developed the property into the Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center (OWL), an educational, recreational, and therapeutic ministry.
