Barron Cemetery was named for John Barron, a Civil War veteran who came from Virginia and bought a good farm here in 1870. He first married Delilah Ward, who died in the 1860s, and then Margaret McElroy, and he had fifteen children. About 1875 he gave land for a church-school building and this community cemetery, where he and some other members of his family were later buried. William Jenkins, also a Confederate veteran, is the earliest known among some six dozen interments. The burial ground closed about 1920 and is cared for by descendants who formed the Barron Cemetery Association in 1971.
