The Oklahoma Lane community, named for the many settlers who came from Oklahoma, was originally part of the XIT Ranch. Families began settling there around 1915 when the Capitol Reservation Lands Company started selling XIT ranch land. Most residents worked in agriculture and ranching. As many young families arrived, the Sunnyside and Knox schools served early residents before later consolidating into the Oklahoma School. By the 1920s, residents had organized Methodist and Baptist churches, and in 1925 the Capitol Lane Syndicate established a cemetery. Oklahoma Lane remains a tightly knit rural community.
