Founded in 1918 in response to management challenges faced by Pennsylvania fruit growers, FREC was originally located in Arendtsville before moving here in 1971. It has conducted groundbreaking research on fruit production systems and diseases, and its integrated pest management programs revolutionized insect control. Its work has had a global influence on fruit production and marketing.
