Colonial Creek Falls, in Washington’s North Cascades National Park, is recognized as the tallest waterfall in the continental United States and ranks fifteenth tallest in the world according to the World Waterfall Database. Instead of one sheer drop, it descends 2,568 feet across more than 4,200 horizontal feet in 13 separate tiers. Those combined drops produce an average incline of about 65 degrees, making it a long, steep cascade rather than a single vertical plunge. Its total height is 143 feet greater than Yosemite Falls, underscoring the scale that gives this relatively lesser-known waterfall its significance.
