Horse Mountain is a 9,952-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, within the broader Rocky Mountains. Located in San Juan National Forest about 15.8 miles west by north of Pagosa Springs, it stands out as a prominent peak rising above the forested mountain country west of town. Its place in the San Juans gives it a setting within one of Colorado’s expansive highland landscapes, and it remains part of the protected public lands of the national forest.
