Known for tranquil charm and peaceful elegance, Crown Hill became the final resting place of many figures from the roaring, raucous world of motorsporting. Those interred there include Indianapolis Motor Speedway creator Carl Fisher and the Speedway’s other three founding fathers, James Allison, Arthur Newby, and Frank Wheeler. Crown Hill is also the final finish line for the Marmon, Stutz, and Duesenberg racing families, as well as Indianapolis 500 winners, drivers, mechanics, race officials, and colorful figures including Cannon Ball Baker, racing pilot Roscoe Turner, African American mechanic and driver Charles Wiggins, and female driver and stuntwoman Elfreda Mais LaPlante.
