Chandler State Wayside is a day-use park in south-central Oregon, about 16 miles north of Lakeview on U.S. Route 395, where ponderosa pines and Crooked Creek create a shaded refuge in the dry interior. Named for settlers Solomon and Hattie Chandler, whose ranch became one of Lake County’s largest by the 1920s, the park began when they donated creekside land to the state in July 1929 for a roadside park. Later expanded after the highway was relocated in the mid-1960s, it remains a simple rest stop and scenic byway stop known for fishing, wildlife viewing, and bird habitat along its riparian corridor and pine forest.
