Clayton H. Pickett, Corporal NG27342169, was killed in action on November 5, 1951, while serving in Korea with the 89th Tank Battalion, and former members of Tank Company, 135 Infantry, remembered him as a comrade. The General Sherman was the workhorse of American armored forces during World War II and became the best known American tank of that period. Almost 50,000 were built. An extremely reliable vehicle, the Sherman weighed about 31 tons, could travel at 25 miles per hour, had 3-inch armor plate, and a 75mm gun.
