Built in the late 1880s by Hose Tucker and later acquired by Henry O'Dell, Chautauqua Lake Stock Farm stood on the south side of Route 394 and extended west to Winch Road. The 110-acre farm included an excellent one-half mile race track and a one-eighth mile indoor track for training. Fifteen to twenty men were employed to care for one hundred horses, including "Lakewood Prince," the village's distinguished stallion. Justice Jackson, a U.S. Supreme Court judge, took much interest in the farm and kept his horses there. John Cowing later built the farmhouse seen north of Route 394, and it still stands there today.
