The first settlement in Warren County, one-fourth mile east, stood on the north side of the Barren River near the mouth of Drake's Creek. Andrew McFadin, a Revolutionary War soldier from North Carolina, surveyed the area and established the station in 1785. It became a popular stopover on the Cumberland Trace. Emmett Logan, an editor of the Louisville Times, later owned the land where the station stood, and Henry Watterson was a frequent visitor to his home.
