The Gov. A.H. Longino House, one-half block north, was built in 1884 and restored by the Lawrence Co. Hist. Soc. A.H. Longino was governor of Mississippi from 1901 to 1904. During his term the New Capitol was built, the Dept. of Archives & Hist. and the state penal farm were established, and the public school system was improved.
