Farewell Bend State Recreation Area is an Oregon state park in eastern Oregon, about 25 miles northwest of Ontario, at a site tied to the Oregon Trail along the Snake River. Farewell Bend was remembered as the last easy stopping place before emigrants left the river. There, travelers could rest and water and graze their animals before turning north into the rougher country along the Burnt River. The park’s importance lies in preserving a place where modern recreation meets a significant pause on one of the trail’s more demanding stretches.
