Salome Wilderness
Nature
Salome Wilderness is a protected area in the Sierra Ancha of central Arizona within Tonto National Forest, set in the state's rugged rim country of broken mountains and canyons. Its perennial streams, including Workman Creek and Salome Creek, help sustain an unusually diverse community of plants and animals. Among its distinctive ecological features are isolated populations of coastal woodfern, Dryopteris arguta, a species more often found much closer to the Pacific coast.
