This was the main industrial area of the village. To the left was a wood-frame grist mill built about 1820 that ground grain and made feed for local farmers, and fire destroyed the mill in 1944. In front was a three story stone mill built about 1820 that filled the area along Madison Street between Genesee Street and the creek. Over time, the building was used as a woolen mill, cotton mill, brass factory, and cheese factory, and much of it was torn down in the 1940s. To the right, almost to the creek, was a blacksmith shop built about the 1840s.
