Brig. Gen. John H. Morgan's Cavalry Division began its raid into Indiana and Ohio here with the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th Kentucky Cavalry, the 9th Tennessee Calvary, and attached artillery. Brig. Gen. Basil Duke and Col. Adam Johnson commanded brigades. The raid ended with the capture of the bulk of the 2640-man force at Buffington, O., while a small portion escaped to Virginia.
