The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, Texas, preserves the history and culture of the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast through both regional storytelling and the lives of notable people connected to the area. In its 39,000-square-foot facility, it features a gallery of Robert Rauschenberg’s work and a Music Hall of Fame that includes artifacts from Janis Joplin’s youth. Its Music, Sports, and Notable Halls of Fame honor more than 200 people from the region who gained national or international distinction. Rooted in the original Port Arthur Museum, chartered in 1964, it serves as both a civic museum and a broader showcase of Gulf Coast heritage.
