The Malcolm Willey House in Minneapolis, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1934, is an important transitional work between his Prairie houses and later Usonian designs. Built for Nancy and Malcolm Willey after an earlier plan proved too costly, the modest home ultimately cost about $10,000. Its significance lies in Wright’s use of red brick, cypress, and a 30-60-90 triangular geometry, as well as an open interior that joined living and dining space while minimizing separation from the kitchen. Once overlooking the Mississippi River gorge, the house later lost that view to Interstate 94 and was restored after changing owners.
