West Peak rises to 8,186 feet in the Big Snowy Mountains of central Montana, where it forms the westernmost summit of this isolated, island-like range in Fergus County within the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Reached by the Crystal Lake National Recreational Trail, the mountain sends water into tributaries of both the Judith and Musselshell rivers. Its northeast face contains Devil's Chute Ice Cave, a well-known local attraction that gives the peak significance beyond its height and position in the range.
