Old Harrison Chapel was founded in 1840 by Republic of Texas pioneers Charles Moores (1776-1852) and his wife, Mary Harrison. The extinct all-faiths chapel, where circuit riders served, was named for her parents of South Carolina. Its 5-acre family-community burial plot contains about 100 graves. Mary Harrison, Charles Moores, and Willis Whitaker were children of American Revolution soldiers; three of Moores' sons were Texas Rangers; and four men buried here had Republic of Texas headrights. Restored in 1967, the cemetery is now the only evidence of Mooresville, northwest of here, which had a post office from 1841 to 1866. Moores Landing was on the Sulphur River.
