Saint Paul's Church was founded on May 10, 1877. Bishop A.C. Garrett laid its cornerstone on May 12, 1884, on land given by Judge J.M. Lindsay, a civic leader. Built in the English Gothic style, it was constructed of locally made brick and set on a foundation of huge limestone slabs hauled to the site by oxcart. The first service in the church was held on Aug. 6, 1885. Saint Paul's had become a parish in 1888 and was one of thirteen original parishes when the Diocese of Dallas was created in 1895. The church was consecrated on May 6, 1900.
