The cemetery preserves the memory of early settlers of the Snake Creek Community, including the Hodges, Boon, Boone, Darst, Davis, Gill, Armstrong, Hartgraves, Hughes, Kennelly, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Snedecor, Sims, Tarver, and West families. Buried here are two veterans of the Battle of San Jacinto, Emory P. Darst and John P. Gill, as well as several Confederate veterans. Land for the graveyard was granted in the 1850s by William Cole and Peter L. West, who is also buried here. A community church west of the cemetery served residents for many years until it was destroyed during a 1932 hurricane.
