The Baltimore Streetcar Museum preserves Baltimore’s public transportation history through an operating collection of historic streetcars running on trackage built to the city’s distinctive broad gauge. Founded in 1966 by members of the Baltimore Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, it opened in 1968 and began public operations in 1970 after volunteers laid track and installed overhead wire. Its collection traces Baltimore transit from horse-car days to PCC streetcars, including several notable surviving and restored cars with long, varied service lives. Supported by volunteers, machine-shop work, and a rail history library, it remains a rare working link to Baltimore’s vanished street railway network.
