Mission San Juan Bautista was founded on June 24, 1797 by Father Laseun as the fifteenth of the twenty-one missions. Its church, dedicated in 1812, is the largest and the only one with three aisles. The monastery wing consisted of thirty-six rooms. The mission has never been abandoned and is now the parish church of San Juan Bautista.
