Trinity Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church began in 1882 as a mission church, with the Reverend W.M. Apling appointed as its first pastor. In 1887, the New York and Texas Land Company, Ltd. donated land for a church site, and by 1890 a small one-room building had been erected. As the congregation grew, members redesigned the sanctuary by relocating the entrance, adding a bell tower, and attaching wings to the north and south sides. Its pews were hand-hewn wooden benches with backs decorated by nine-inch spindles. Several prominent local citizens have belonged to the church, whose congregation has promoted Sunday school and vacation bible school, supported civic responsibility through local scholarships and financial patronage of Paul Quinn College in Dallas and the Trinity Community Cemetery, sponsored a clothing bank, promoted an African American parade, and contributed to other social outreach programs. For more than a century, the church has continued to serve the Trinity area.
