Originally part of Bexar District, Borden County was created and organized on August 21, 1876, and March 17, 1891. It was named in honor of Gail Borden, 1801-1874, a pioneer surveyor, newspaper editor, and inventor of the process of condensing milk. Gail is the county seat.
