Resaca de la Palma State Park in Brownsville, Texas, is a 1,200-acre preserve named for a former Rio Grande channel cut off into an oxbow-like waterway. Acquired by Texas Parks and Wildlife in 1977 and opened to the public in December 2008, it is the largest of the three state parks in the World Birding Center network and supports that partnership’s mission to conserve and restore lower Rio Grande woodland and wetland habitat. Known for birdwatching, the park also offers hiking and cycling trails, observation decks, a butterfly garden, tram tours, and a visitor center, while protecting rich grassland, woodland, savannah, and wetland ecosystems and their diverse wildlife.
