Constructed in 1927, this 200-foot span bridge once served as a crossing over the Tar River on Greene Street. In 2002, it was disassembled into three sections and moved to Town Commons Park, and its reassembly was completed in 2005. It is a Parker Truss Bridge, a type of which only a few existed in North Carolina when it was reassembled. Funds for the project were provided by the City of Greenville and an Enhancement Grant received through the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The bridge now serves as an entranceway to the South Tar River Greenway. It was dedicated on June 21st, 1926, in honor of the men from Pitt County who served during the World War in 1917-1918 and in memory of those who gave their lives for their country, by the N.C. State Highway Commission at the request of the Womans Auxiliary Pitt County Post of American Legion Greenville, as Pitt County State Project No. 182.
