A shore restoration and protection project in Newport, Rhode Island, was carried out in 1984-1985 with funding from the National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund, the State of Rhode Island, and the City of Newport. Patrick G. Kirby served as mayor, and the City Council members were Alfred L. Angel, William K. Collins, Thomas W. Kelly, William D. Nagle, David F. Roderick, Jr., and Charles Soliozy. The project was designed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the contractor was Hydro-Dredge Corporation.
