Nature
Stony Man Mountain is a 4,011-foot summit in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park and the northernmost 4,000-foot peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of only two summits above 4,000 feet in the park, it is also among Shenandoah’s more distinct high points because of its prominence. Located just southeast of the Appalachian Trail, it is one of the park’s more accessible mountains, with relatively short routes from Skyland Resort and Skyline Drive. Its upper slopes support a few red spruce and balsam fir trees, and its bedrock is ancient basalt transformed into greenstone, reflecting the deep geologic history of the Blue Ridge.
