Robert Houghwout Jackson was a lawyer and jurist born on the family farm here in Spring Creek. He served in President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration starting in 1934, as U.S. Solicitor General from 1938 to 1939 and as Attorney General from 1940 to 1941. In 1941 he became an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, serving until 1954, and was noted for his defense of civil liberties. After World War II, he was the chief U.S. prosecutor in the Nuremberg war crimes trials in Germany.
