Ogemaw Hills Pathway is a 15-mile nonmotorized trail system north of West Branch in Michigan’s Au Sable State Forest, used for hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking. It crosses the West Branch Moraine, a glacial ridge formed by the Saginaw Lobe of the Laurentide Ice Sheet and marking the northern edge of proglacial Lake Saginaw during the Pleistocene. The area also preserves signs of later settlement and forestry history. Ogemaw State Forest was established in 1914, a steel fire lookout tower was built that year, and traces of abandoned farms still remain. Since 1978, the area has been part of the Au Sable State Forest.
