This seventy-two mile river park in a bustling urban setting offers quiet stretches for fishing, boating and canoeing, birdwatching, bicycling, and hiking, with visitor centers and trails that highlight the human history of the Mississippi River, making it a starting point for exploring this important river. Minnesota has a continental climate characterized by cold winters and warm summers. Spring brings moderate temperatures and low humidity. Summer days may reach temperatures of more than one hundred degrees Fahrenheit (thirty-eight degrees Celsius), but are usually pleasant with temperatures in the low to mid-eighties degrees Fahrenheit (twenty-five to thirty degrees Celsius). Autumn brings dry, warm days, cool nights and fall colors. Winter daytime highs are around twenty-five degrees Fahrenheit (minus three degrees Celsius). Rarely, winter daytime high temperatures may not get above minus ten degrees Fahrenheit (minus twenty-three degrees Celsius), sometimes with strong winds.
