Midway Congregational Church was organized in 1754 by descendants of an English colony that first came to Massachusetts in 1630, then to Connecticut in 1635, to South Carolina in 1695, and to Georgia in 1752. It was built on the same spot as the church burned by the British in 1778. This church gave the country eighty-six ministers of the Gospel and seven foreign missionaries. Midway, in St. John's Parish, now Liberty County, was the cradle of Revolutionary spirit in Georgia, and two of its sons were signers of the Declaration of Independence.
