On July 16, 1925, at Parole, Maryland, Reverend J.J. Cecil, a retired minister of the former Washington Conference and a member of Asbury Quarterly Conference-Annapolis, conceived a Methodist church in Parole. He turned that vision into reality by organizing Asbury Methodist Church in an abandoned, dilapidated canning factory and using orange crates as seats. Reverend E.A. Love, pastor of Asbury Church in Annapolis, advised Reverend and Mrs. Cecil to move the rapidly growing Sunday School into the Cecils' home. Services and Sunday School of the new church were held there until May 1926, when the church secured a more comfortable place for ten dollars a month.
