Capshaw Mountain in Harvest, Alabama, rises about 800 feet above the surrounding land and forms a local watershed that helps supply water to the community. Though considered a small mountain, it has an important practical role as a regional communications site because of its height and position. Three tall towers on its summit serve local radio and television stations, wireless phone companies, state agencies, and other private operators. Its line-of-sight transmission reaches nearly 125 miles in every direction, extending toward Birmingham, Nashville, Mississippi, and Chattanooga. It is specifically identified as not being part of the Cumberland Plateau.
